The Facts:
The Chargers had five players not participating in the portion of practice today open to the media, not bad for a Wednesday at this time of the season. The problem was the identity of those five players: QB Philip Rivers, RB LaDainian Tomlinson, TE Antonio Gates, NT Jamal Williams and LB Shawne Merriman.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The absence of Tomlinson (knee), Gates (toe) and Rivers (knee), who was on the field watching at least a portion of practice, comes as no real surprise. All three are expected to be limited -- if they practice at all -- throughout the week. We're still looking for all three to at least open Sunday's Conference Championship game against the Patriots on Sunday, but we'll continue tracking their progress in the meantime.
