The Facts:
A league source tells us that the Patriots already have advised Stallworth that they won’t be picking up the $6 million option due to be paid to him on or before February 25. As a result, the Pats will be required to cut Stallworth by 4:00 p.m. EST on Friday, February 22. Unless, of course, they work out a new deal with him before then.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Last March, Stallworth signed what amounted to a one-year "prove it" deal with the Patriots. Stallworth also is set to earn a $2 million roster bonus on February 29. As PFT editor Mike Florio suggests, New England's receiving budget might be better spent on Randy Moss and Jabar Gaffney, who are also due to become free agents. It should also be noted that not paying Stallworth his bonus money wouldn't preclude the team from re-signing him to a more favorable contract down the road. Meanwhile, Pro Football Weekly suggests that Tennessee might be among the teams interested in Stallworth.
