The Facts:
Barber is scheduled to be a restricted free agent, but the Cowboys are hoping to pick up talks with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis before free agency begins Feb. 29.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
At the least, Morning News staffer Todd Archer suggests, the Cowboys will give Barber the $2.562 million tender, which would require interested teams to fork over first- and third-round picks to get him. Barber finished with 975 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2007, although Julius Jones was the starter. With Jones set to become an unrestricted free agent and probably not coming back, the Cowboys need depth behind Barber, but the top available free agent runners want to be the lead actor. According to Archer, the Cowboys would be better suited to find a third-down type in free agency and an every-down back early in the draft. It remains to be seen if recent reports hinting at owner Jerry Jones' willingness to trade Barber for a short at Darren McFadden come to pass.
