The Facts:
Panthers GM Marty Hurney said he plans to inquire about two well-known veteran players who were officially released by other teams on Tuesday -- tight end Alge Crumpler and receiver Muhsin Muhammad. "That is definitely something we will look into," Hurney said last night from the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. "But I think we will do that with everybody that comes across that we think can help us."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
While that doesn't mean the Panthers will sign either player, it's at least a signal they are intrigued. As of Tuesday night, however, Hurney told Gazette staffer Steve Reed the team had not met with either player and that there was "nothing going on" on that front. It's unclear if the Panthers have visits already lined up with either Crumpler or Muhammad for later in the week. That said, there is reason to believe both players want to play for the Panthers. Crumpler, is a Greenville, N.C., native who played for the Tar Heels in college. Muhammad spent seven seasons with Carolina and still owns a home in Charlotte and has ties to the area and still runs some charitable organizations here.
