The Bears released the veteran place-kicker today. Edinger led the Bears in scoring in each of his five years in the NFL and ranks as the fifth-leading scorer in Bears history. Owning the second-highest field goal accuracy percentage in franchise history at 75.3, Edinger averaged 92.6 points per season with Chicago despite recording a career-low 67 points in 2004.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
The move comes 10 days after the Bears signed Doug Brien, who had been released by the New York Jets, essentially ending what appeared to be an extended competition between the two. According to local reports, Brien gained an early edge of Edinger by hitting 5-of-7 field goals in a Saturday morning workout -- with one miss from 50 yards. Edinger was 4-for-7.
