Cardinals head coach Dennis Green announced Wednesday his decision to name Warner as the team's starting quarterback. "With our team organized workouts starting up again next week, we're entering an important phase in our preparation for the 2005 season," said Green. "I think it's important during this time that the leadership of the team is established and Kurt has clearly demonstrated that he's one of our team leaders. ... We're confident that he's the right choice to be the starting quarterback and will play a big part in getting this team to the playoffs this year."

The announcement comes on the heels of NFL Network reports, in which insider Adam Schefter advised viewers that Josh McCown had a legitimate chance to unseat Warner as Arizona's starter this offseason. Of course, I'll remind you that Green was just as keen on McCown last offseason -- at one point
comparing him to Brett Favre. Proceed with appropriate caution.
