The Facts:
One day after signing former Bears place-kicker Paul Edinger to a one-year, $540,000 contract, head coach Mike Tice said said Edinger was signed to create competition for Elling and that the job is still Elling's to lose. "Aaron is our kicker unless somebody beats him out," Tice said. The team also released kickoff specialist Jose Cortez.

Perhaps Tice should have said until somebody beats him out. Edinger, who has converted 75.3 percent of his career field-goal attempts, can earn an additional $150,000 in incentives if he makes 80-85 percent of his attempts this season and $250,000 if he makes more than 85 percent.
