The Hunter Report - DFS Week 8

My lineup wasn’t bad in Week 7, pulling in the 17th spot out of 46 clubs. For the season, I’m sitting in 16th place in the $22 Diehards FantasyFeud.com Seasonal Salary Cap League, so I’m hovering around and staying close to the leaders. I’m 135 points or so from 1st place overall, so one massive high-point week can get me back into the mix for the big bucks.

Here was my Week 7 lineup, which netted me 154.84 points, well behind the weekly winner, CODYVWETTER, who tallied 217.46 points:

QB – Kirk Cousins, WAS (30.18)
QB – Derek Carr, OAK (23.86)
RB – Charles Sims, TB (5.6)
RB – Le’Veon Bell, PIT (15.7)
WR – Rishard Matthews, MIA (15)
WR – Amari Cooper, OAK (21.8)
TE – Rob Gronkowski, NE (22.3)
FLEX – Frank Gore, IND (10)
FLEX – Keenan Allen, SD (13.4)

You can check out the yearly standings for yourself. I’m “TheRolyPolyBoy”:

I really thought I’d get more out of my FLEX slots, although Charles Sims was a huge disappointment, performing well below his weekly output average.

Let’s get right into Week 8, where there are some very interesting values yet again. Let’s hope you’re a bit better than I am this week at putting the right guys together for a winning lineup. Again, I always seem to have my mitts on the right performing players, but fitting them all into a salary-cap restricted lineup isn’t the easiest thing to do.

Bye Week: Buffalo Bills; Jacksonville Jaguars; Philadelphia Eagles; Washington Redskins

QUARTERBACK

Top Level

Philip Rivers, SD @ Baltimore Ravens ($141,900) – I’m expecting at least 20-25 fantasy points from Rivers facing the Ravens, whose passing defense has given up 357 yards and 2 TD on average over the last three games played. It should be a very good week for Rivers as the Ravens have given up the most fantasy points to quarterbacks so far this season.

Other choices: Andy Dalton, CIN @ Pittsburgh Steelers ($138,100)

Mid-Range

Eli Manning, NYG @ New Orleans Saints ($131,500) – I know, it’s sort of tough paying this kind of dough for a guy that has only combined for 13.16 fantasy points over his last two games. Yeah, that’s an average of 6.yuck per game. So, let’s say I have some faith in Manning bouncing back after two miserable weeks where he’s only tossed one TD pass total. Say, where’s Odell Beckham been? The Saints pass defense stinks against quarterbacks. Good for you!

Other choices: Drew Brees, NO vs. New York Giants ($130,000)

Value

Ryan Fitzpatrick, NYJ @ Oakland Raiders ($124,600) – The pricing on quarterbacks in general has taken a spike, so the values aren’t quite there like they were a couple of weeks ago. Fitzpatrick is my favorite in this price range, and the Raiders aren’t exactly stout against the pass. Fitzpatrick won’t hurt you and he’ll be a solid fill-in at QB if you load up at WR and/or RB.

Other choices: Joe Flacco, BAL vs. San Diego Chargers ($122,600)

Over-Value:

Peyton Manning, DEN vs. Green Bay Packers ($132,900) – Sure, this may be the week that Manning goes nuts and racks up points but I doubt it. Dude hasn’t even hit the 10-point mark since Week 4. Manning is highly overrated as a DFS play and is only listed at this salary due to name recognition alone.

RUNNING BACK

Top Level

Todd Gurley, STL @ San Francisco 49ers ($144,600) – Well, it looks like Gurley is living up to preseason billing, averaging 144 yards per game over his last three contests. I love the matchup and I don’t mind paying this kind of money in the right lineup for Gurley, but it must be the right lineup.

Other choices: Adrian Peterson, MIN @ Chicago Bears ($139,800)

Mid-Range

Chris Ivory, NYJ @ Oakland Raiders ($118,400) – Keep an eye out for Ivory as he may not play on Sunday; however, if he’s ready to go I love him in this one. I see the Jets grinding out the ball and giving Ivory at least 20 carries. With that in mind, he’ll have a bitchin’ shot at finding the end zone.

Other choices: Justin Forsett, BAL vs. San Diego Chargers ($120,500); Mark Ingram, NO vs. New York Giants ($119,800)

Value

Alfred Blue, HOU vs. Tennessee Titans ($77,900) – I like the matchup and the opportunities that Blue gets now with Arian Foster – sniff, sniff – done for the year. Blue is worth the roster spot in your lineup this week and should touch the ball about 15 times. The value is decent.

Other choices: Ronnie Hillman, DEN vs. Green Bay Packers ($86,500)

Over-Value

Devonta Freeman, ATL @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($141,500) – Okay, I’m sure Freeman will get close to 100 yards, but I’m not convinced that he scores. Plus, the Buccaneers have not been bad against running backs this season. I’m not paying $141.5 for less-than-dominant numbers.

WIDE RECEIVER

Top Level

DeAndre Hopkins, HOU vs. Tennessee Titans ($138,200) – With Hopkins at $151K-plus last week, this price seems like a fantastic value, eh? Well, not really but the price is low enough to work him into your DFS lineup as your top WR play. Hopkins is in line to bounce back off a subpar week, averaging 19.80 FPPG this year which is best in the NFL.

Other choices: Odell Beckham, NYG @ New Orleans Saints ($129,900); Keenan Allen, SD @ Baltimore Ravens ($124,500)

Mid-Range

Alshon Jeffery, CHI vs. Minnesota Vikings ($120,200) – It’s all about Jeffery staying healthy. The $120.2 K price is reasonable considering the massive potential Jeffery has against the Vikings in Week 8. The Vikings are actually decent against wide receivers, regarding points they allow each week, but Jeffery will be targeted a ton by Jay Cutler.

Other choices: Larry Fitzgerald, ARI @ Cleveland Browns ($118,400); Mike Evans, TB @ Atlanta Falcons ($114,600)

Value

Brandin Cooks, NO vs. New York Giants ($95,000) – Cooks has been inconsistent all season long and hasn’t lived up to preseason hype, although I’ve got hope for him… starting in Week 8 facing the Giants. Usually I can find better WR value from week-to-week, so don’t give me 20 lashes, but I’m not a fan of most receivers below the $100 K mark.

Other choices: Marvin Jones, CIN @ Pittsburgh Steelers ($89,700); Nate Washington, HOU vs. Tennessee Titans ($70,000)

Over-Value

Emmanuel Sanders, DEN vs. Green Bay Packers ($115,600) – I’m not into paying this sort of price for a receiver that’s battling injury. Avoid.

TIGHT END

Top Level

Tyler Eifert, CIN @ Pittsburgh Steelers ($112,100)

Mid-Range

Martellus Bennett, CHI vs. Minnesota Vikings ($100,400)

Value

Ladarius Green, SD @ Baltimore Ravens ($75,400)

Over-Value

Greg Olsen, CAR vs. Indianapolis Colts ($113,800)
