Building a Draft Kings Lineup Around New York, New York

There are two New York teams that share a stadium in my home state of New Jersey. The Giants and the Jets will be squaring off in a New Jersey-hosted New York showdown this Sunday. With Vegas having this game line at 45 and both teams having injuries to their secondaries, I want to be a part of it – New York, New York. This week for my fun, out-of-the-box daily fantasy lineup I am anchoring my team with the opposing New York receivers against the depleted, opposing New York secondaries. It’s up to you Eric Decker, Odell Beckham Jr. My little town blues are melting away at the thought of New York, New York winning me money this weekend. Below is the lineup I created inspired by one of the greatest Frank Sinatra songs ever written.
QB – Ryan Fitzpatrick - $5,200
In pairing my stud receivers I opted to go with the less expensive of the New York quarterbacks. Eli Manning would cost me $1,300 more than Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has thrown nine touchdowns in his past four games. I am looking for him to connect with Eric Decker for the double special. In games Decker has not scored he has recorded at least 80 yards. I want the yards and the touchdown from him this week, courtesy of Ryan Fitzpatrick.
RB – DeAngelo Williams - $5,600
Williams has one dud in his past four games and he completely manhandled the Seattle Seahawks through the air last week. The Indianapolis Colts are a far-less intimidating matchup for him and if Ben Roethlisberger uses him in the short passing game again this week, Williams can hit value. There are 11 running backs priced higher than Williams this week. His cost allowed me to pay up elsewhere.
RB – David Johnson - $3,400
Johnson will be heavily owned but it is not enough for me to fade him this week. When the ball is in his hands the rookie does something special with it. Both Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington will miss this game which just gives him more opportunity to create special moments. His usage in the passing game is an added bonus to his low cost. It is hard not to play Johnson this week.
WR – Alshon Jeffery - $6,900
I feel really good about rounding out my receiving corps with Alshon Jeffery. Injuries have plagued him this season but Chicago has been smart in shutting him down when he is not healthy. He produces solid numbers when he plays and he has built himself a high floor. Cutler’s go-to target is securing 63% of his targets and his physicality makes him a weekly threat to score.
TE - Jacob Tamme - $3,700
I know Tamme is the Falcons’ tight end but they should just go ahead and call him the WR2. Leonard Hankerson is on track to miss this week’s game and Tamme’s numbers when Hankerson does not play trend up in all major categories. Tamme’s targets and receptions double when Hankerson is out and in games Hankerson has not played in this season Tamme has scored four touchdowns. He is a cheap tight end with great upside.
Flex - T.Y. Hilton - $5,700
Hilton has proven to be a consistent factor in this offense whether Andrew Luck or Matt Hasselback are under center. Against the 30th ranked Pittsburgh Steelers’ passing-defense this weekend, Hilton feels like a steal at under $6,000. The Colts-Steelers’ game kicks off at 8:30PM Sunday night, giving me plenty of options to be flexible with my flex spot.
DST - Patriots - $3,400
The Patriots may see Sam Bradford instead of Mark Sanchez this week but both quarterbacks are a great matchup for a team that figures to play with a certain level of anger and intensity after coming off of their first loss of the season. A handful of banged up Patriot defenders were able to put in practice time this week, making this defense even stronger in a game where they can create a few turnovers.
When I started thinking about the New York showdown in my backyard this weekend I immediately thought about the parallels between these teams and Frank Sinatra. Both are New Jersey products with New York notoriety. It is beyond out-of-the-box to build a lineup inspired by a musician that has been dead for 17 years but I feel like it works. Odell Beckham Jr. is never a risky play, especially in a game where his opponent will be without Darelle Revis. Eric Decker almost always winds up in my lineups due to consistently high floor. I have high hopes that this lineup will make me queen of the hill, top of the heap.
