Week 1 is nearing and DraftKings is offering a $10 million guaranteed prize pool tournament that is paying $2 million for first. Second place isn’t so shabby either with a $1 million payout. Needless to say, someone’s life will change in the first week of the season. As you set your lineups, looking for value plays is essential if you want to fit in some studs. You start off with $50,000 and have to fill out nine roster spots, which averages out to $5,555 per player. Granted defenses are cheaper and the max you’d ever have to pay for a defense is about $3,400. That being said, you still need to find some values if you want to roster the elite players with high salary. Below I’ll share with you some value plays on DraftKings for Week 1.

Quarterback
Sam Bradford, Eagles - $6,900
Bradford had a strong performance in his second preseason start against the Packers. He completed 10 of his 10 pass attempts for 121 yards and threw three touchdowns. Week 1, the Eagles head to Atlanta to play the Falcons, a defense who allowed the most passing yards in the NFL last season (4,478). The Falcons surrendered 20 touchdown passes and 280 yards per game. The current over/under for this game is 53.5 points and a 1.5 point spread. This indicates that Vegas predicts this will be a close game with plenty of points scored. The main concern with Bradford is his durability, but fortunately for DFS, you’re only using him in Week 1, and at this time he appears healthy. He’s cheaper than Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, and Matthew Stafford, but offers a potentially higher ceiling and floor in Week 1. If he can stay on the field the entire game, he should have no problem hitting his value and even exceeding it.

Running Back
DeMarco Murray, Eagles - $6,700
Many are skeptical, myself included, about Murray this season. It’s a new team for him, he received a ton of carries last season, and he’s always been known as a back that gets injured. It’s unlikely that he will receive the volume he did last season, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Chip Kelly wants to run 80 offensive plays per game, so the entire offense will see a lot of opportunities if Kelly is able to execute his game plan. Murray led the league in rushing yards last season and was only priced cheaper than $7,500 once last season and that was in Week 1. This could be the last time we see Murray this cheap. Murray is capable of huge games and could be a big part of this Eagles offense. At this price it’s almost impossible not to roster him even if there are some doubts in your mind about him. Granted, because of this price he will likely be owned in a good amount of lineups, so playing him in cash games could be the way to go. He offers a steady floor and a pretty high-ceiling. He’s one of the best values for Week 1.
Other values: Lamar Miller $5,500, Doug Martin $4,500, Chris Ivory $4,100, and Ameer Abdullah $4,000.

Wide Receiver
Davante Adams, Packers - $4,400
Adams’ stock rose once Jordy Nelson went down for the season, but now that Randall Cobb is going to miss the first couple of weeks of the season, Adams price appears too good to be true. He is the number one receiver in the Packers offense that is led by Aaron Rodgers and is only $4,400. Not to mention, the Packers take on the Bears in Week 1, a team that Rodgers torched last year in both games as he combined for 10 touchdowns passes. The volume should be there for Adams to open the season and at this price it would be silly not to roster him. He flashed some promise at times last season and will get his opportunity to shine early on. I’d be buying on Adams in the first week as it’s likely the last time you’d be able to roster him at this low price.

Tight End
Richard Rodgers, Packers - $2,500
So I went with two Eagles players and two Packers players as value plays. Interesting enough, both of these games are at a 50 or more over under and a relatively close spread. Rodgers may be considered a punt play to some, but in my point of view, he has become a value play. He’s the bare minimum price for a tight end and should see a significant amount of targets with all the injuries the Packers are dealing with. He’s a big body and can be a big target for Aaron Rodgers in the red zone. He caught a touchdown in the second preseason game and has had a strong camp, so things are looking positive for Richard Rodgers. The tight end position is very volatile, so being able to pay the least amount for a tight end in a good situation that offers a good amount of upside is ideal, and that’s exactly what he offers.
