The Hunter Report - DFS Week 13
What a week, huh? I have to say it’s one of the craziest point-scoring weeks I’ve seen in a very long time, with inconsistent week-to-week players like Sammy Watkins, Doug Baldwin and Julius Thomas coming through big time for DFS owners! But, that’s part of the game. You have to dig enough into the numbers, salaries and news to get the right mix of players. And, sure, some luck does play into things especially in giant GPP leagues.
Check out my lineup from Week 12, where I scored 147.76 points for 7th place out of 46 teams. The weekly winner goes to “DONNYBASBL”, who netted 168.8 points:
QB – Philip Rivers, SD (28.9)
QB – Blake Bortles, JAC (22.46)
RB – Javorius Allen, BAL (16.4)
RB – Latavius Murray, OAK (8.7)
WR – Odell Beckham, NYG (24.7)
WR – Amari Cooper, OAK (15)
TE – Gary Barnidge, CLE (12.6)
FLEX – Brandin Cooks, NO (6)
FLEX – Tevin Coleman, ATL (9)
DEF – New England Patriots (4)
I’m really happy I went QB heavy in Week 12, spending a bit more dough than usual to lock in Philip Rivers and Blake Bortles. I took advantage of RB value in Javorius Allen, although I was expecting a bit more out of Tevin Coleman even though the yardage was there. Brandin Cooks laid an egg, but so did the entire New Orleans Saints offense. I’m likely going with a similar lineup strategy, assuming I can talk myself into spending the bucks on the QB slot again.
Check out the yearly standings for yourself. I’m “TheRolyPolyBoy” and I remain in 9th place overall out of 46 teams for the year from last week in the NFL $22 FantasyFeud.com/FootballDieHards.com Season League:

QUARTERBACK
Top Level
Tom Brady, NE vs. Philadelphia Eagles ($151,500) – The Eagles have given up 10 TD passes over their last two games and will be facing Brady and the Patriots high-powered offense. Sure, Rob Gronkowski is dinged up, same with Danny Amendola, but I’ve got both pegged for playing time this week. If you want superstar QB with a decent matchup, this is it. If not Brady, then the below Cam Newton will work. Just be prepared to find lots of good values to work around the high-ticket salary.
Other choices: Cam Newton, CAR @ New Orleans Saints ($158,900); Andy Dalton, CIN @ Cleveland Browns ($141,000)
Mid-Range
Ryan Tannehill, MIA vs. Baltimore Ravens ($129,200) – I like that Tannehill is building some consistency and playing one of the worst pass defenses in the Ravens. Tannehill is risky, so keep that in mind if you’re looking at the mid-range options.
Other choices: Marcus Mariota, TEN vs. Jacksonville Jaguars ($127,300)
Value
Matt Hasselbeck, IND @ Pittsburgh Steelers ($114,800) – Getting Hasselbeck for a below $120 K price is key for me, considering I can spend my cap dollars at WR. The Steelers have been failing some with their pass defense, giving up 5 TD passes to Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks. I’m not expecting 5 TD passes, but 2-3 is not out of the question.
Other choices: Blaine Gabbert, SF @ Chicago Bears ($106,500)
Over-Value:
Ben Roethlisberger, PIT vs. Indianapolis Colts ($150,900) – I’m not paying $150 K-plus for concussion-like symptoms at QB. We all know Big Ben is a stud muffin, just not enough for me to give him a whirl.
RUNNING BACK
Top Level
Adrian Peterson, MIN vs. Seattle Seahawks ($146,400) – At this point, you can feel confident in slotting Peterson into your lineup regardless of the matchup. You just have to convince yourself if you want to pay the price for AP.
Other choices: Todd Gurley, STL vs. Arizona Cardinals ($129,800); DeAngelo Williams, PIT vs. Indianapolis Colts ($126,900)
Mid-Range
Doug Martin, TB vs. Atlanta Falcons ($118,900) – I see 80 yards and one TD for Martin this week, although his potential for more against the Falcons is there. The value is decent even for a mid-range price. I just wish Martin had a more consistent showing from week-to-week.
Other choices: Chris Ivory, NYJ @ New York Giants ($113,400); Matt Forte, CHI vs. San Francisco 49ers ($105,200)
Value
Spencer Ware, KC @ Oakland Raiders ($69,100) – There is a shot that Charcandrick West is ready to go for the Chiefs, but even if West does come back Ware is just running the ball far too well. He’s at a wonderful salary if he starts for the Chiefs, just beware of West possibly returning and cutting into Ware’s touches. Still, I’ve got Ware pegged for 15 touches.
Other choices: Ronnie Hillman, DEN @ San Diego Chargers ($80,300)
Over-Value:
Thomas Rawls, SEA @ Minnesota Vikings ($115,800) – The Vikings have a pretty stout run defense, only allowing 4 TDs all season long. The Seahawks are going to need to pass the ball to beat the Vikings in Week 13.
WIDE RECEIVER
Top Level
DeAndre Hopkins, HOU @ Buffalo Bills ($142,400) – Safe salary here? You would think so, considering Hopkins’ season. He’s coming off a down game in Week 12 and I like a big bounceback game, even facing he Bills pass defense which isn’t bad at all. Look for the surging Houston Texans to take advantage of Hopkins’ skill set, while erasing my suggestion of him last week!
Other choices: Brandon Marshall, NYJ @ New York Giants ($139,900)
Mid-Range
Allen Robinson, JAC vs. Tennessee Titans ($124,200) – My fascination with Robinson continues. In fact, I’m all into Allen Hurns too. You may as well throw in Blake Bortles. The Jaguars are starting to establish themselves offensively, and NFL teams can’t overlook them. Robinson is about as consistent as it gets for a WR.
Other choices: A.J. Green, CIN @ Cleveland Browns ($119,400); Mike Evans, TB vs. Atlanta Falcons ($104,300)
Value
Martavis Bryant, PIT vs. Indianapolis Colts ($107,700) – You could say this is a risky play since Big Ben Roethlisberger is suffering from concussion-like symptoms. I suggested staying away from Big Ben, mainly since his price tag is just outrageous considering the concussion issues. But, if Roethlisberger goes you have to figure he’ll at least find the end zone a couple of times. With that in mind, Bryant is an excellent value at $107.7 K.
Other choices: Danny Amendola, NE vs. Philadelphia Eagles ($94,200); Donte Moncrief, IND @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Over-Value:
Dez Bryant, DAL @ Washington Redskins ($116,000) – I’ll be 100% shocked if Bryant does anything more than 50 yards on Monday. No more Romo means I’m passing on Bryant.
TIGHT END
Top Level
Greg Olsen, CAR @ New Orleans Saints ($122,800)
Mid-Range
Jordan Reed, WAS vs. Dallas Cowboys ($98,800)
Value
Benjamin Watson, NO vs. Carolina Panthers ($65,000)
Over-Value:
Tyler Eifert, CIN @ Cleveland Browns ($121,400)
