The Hunter Report - DFS Week 15

I love going into Monday Night Football with something on the line, especially if it’s a playoff game.

I needed 22 points in my big-money seasonal league with pals from high school and grade school. Yeah, that’s right – I said grade school. Are you lucky enough to hold onto friends of yesteryear like me?

There’s nothing better than thrashing one of them, especially in the playoffs, when your team was inferior to theirs during the regular season. That’s why you gotta love Fantasy Football, right? Seasonal leagues, DFS leagues, it’s doesn’t matter – we love ‘em all!

Thanks to Ryan Tannehill and Jarvis Landry for claiming my victory, although it was a bit nerve-racking there for awhile with so many Miami Dolphins’ wide receivers dropping balls.

So, how did your DFS lineups pan out for you?

Check out my lineup from Week 14, where I scored 105.74 points for 30th place out of 46 teams. The weekly winner goes to “BUCC1208”, who netted 167.8 points:

There was no consistency from my lineup, with four players scoring above 15 points and five players scoring less than 8 points. I don’t want to solely blame Andy Dalton and his injury but it certainly gave me a big, fat stinger. Ouch. Take into account that Big Ben Roethlisberger took the day off statistically with no touchdown passes and I got nothing out of Mike Evans, it’s a wonder I didn’t score less than I did. Still, I’m stoked about the production I got from Eddie Lacy and Tim Hightower, two excellent values that I locked in. The Lacy call really stood out, eh?

QUARTERBACK

Top Level

Carson Palmer, ARI @ Philadelphia Eagles ($149,900) – If you’re not locking into Russell Wilson or Cam Newton, then Palmer is your man. Love the Palmer play with his weapons on offense to toss the ball to. Don’t be surprised to see a 4 TD day!

Other choices: Russell Wilson, SEA vs. Cleveland Browns ($153,500); Cam Newton, CAR @ New York Giants ($151,900)

Mid-Range

Alex Smith, KC @ Baltimore Ravens ($130,100) – This may seem like a strange pick, spending this kind of dough, but Smith is a very efficient quarterback option for DFS owners. He only has 4 INT on the season and he can run the ball quite well for a QB, usually picking up another 3-to-5 points per week with his legs. The matchup is quite excellent as well, so don’t overlook Smith when filling out your lineup.

Other choices: Ryan Tannehill, MIA @ San Diego Chargers ($126,300); Matthew Stafford, DET @ New Orleans Saints ($139,800)

Value

Philip Rivers, SD vs. Miami Dolphins ($117,700) – It’s not all Rivers’ fault. Dude still has the skills and talent and for $117.7 K I’m willing to give him a go even with all the offensive line problems the Chargers are having. Have faith in Rivers facing the Dolphins.

Other choices: Matt Ryan, ATL @ Jacksonville Jaguars ($119,200); A.J. McCarron, CIN @ San Francisco 49ers ($114,900)

Over-Value

Ben Roethlisberger, PIT vs. Denver Broncos ($136,600) – The Broncos are one of the best teams in the NFL at defending the pass and are the best at allowing the fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. I prefer to avoid Big Ben at this price; however, he should put up a better showing than last week.

RUNNING BACK

Top Level

LeSean McCoy, BUF @ Washington Redskins ($136,100) – The Redskins have been playing the run much better of late, keeping running backs to less than 100 yards per game over their last three played. I’ve got McCoy busting that nice little mini-streak with 100 yards and at least 1 TD in Week 15. McCoy will exceed his 14.23 FPPG average, with his receiving skills standing out more than usual.

Other choices: Lamar Miller, MIA @ San Diego Chargers ($130,900); Devonta Freeman, ATL @ Jacksonville Jaguars ($126,900)

Mid-Range

Eddie Lacy, GB @ Oakland Raiders ($113,400) – Lacy worked out wonderfully in Week 14 so I’m giving him another whirl in Week 15. The Raiders are actually pretty tough against the run – something to keep in mind. I like the value here as a mid-range play and I expect the Packers to load up Lacy with tons of carries.

Other choices: Jonathan Stewart, CAR @ New York Giants ($111,700)

Value

Jeremy Hill, CIN @ San Francisco 49ers ($86,700) – With Andy Dalton out for the rest of the season, it’s up to A.J. McCarron to take the helm for the Bengals and to me that means ball control and simple play calling. McCarron will be solid, but the Bengals’ running game must step up. Hill draws a good matchup and should see roughly 20 touches in this one.

Other choices: James White, NE vs. Tennessee Titans ($84,100); Tim Hightower, NO vs. Detroit Lions ($88,800); Giovani Bernard, CIN @ San Francisco 49ers ($90,900)

Over-Value

Adrian Peterson, MIN vs. Chicago Bears ($141,200) – Listen, I get it if you want to top your lineup off with the best running back in the game. Just make sure you use some of my suggested values at wide receiver to offset the high salary, or pass altogether. You don’t want to get too cheap at quarterback if you’re running AP out there this week, so save at WR. What about my lineups? They’ll be without AP this week.

WIDE RECEIVER

Top Level

DeAndre Hopkins, HOU @ Cincinnati Bengals ($146,500) – Okay, so two out of the last three weeks of play Hopkins has underperformed. There was no way he’d keep up his early-season pace, especially with all the issues at quarterback for the Texans. Yet, Hopkins is still one of those talents that can explode any week. Hopkins is more of a gut call than anything for me, since the matchup is actually kind of tough and I’m not a huge fan of other high-priced wide receivers this week.

Other choices: None

Mid-Range

Alshon Jeffery, CHI @ Minnesota Vikings ($122,100) – Jeffery is starting to roll for the Bears and I want to take advantage of the divisional matchup facing the Vikings, a team that has given up 8 TD through the air over their last four games. There’s a good chance that Jeffery finds the end zone.

Other choices: Sammy Watkins, BUF @ Washington Redskins ($117,400); Larry Fitzgerald, ARI @ Philadelphia Eagles ($113,200)

Value

Kamar Aiken, BAL vs. Kansas City Chiefs ($81,700) – Part gut, part matchup, Aiken is a sneaky play for DFS owners in Week 15. Aiken is averaging just a smidge under six receptions a game over his last six played, while averaging double-digit fantasy points in four of those same six games. The Chiefs are much better against the pass late in the season compared to early on, so this is where the “gut” part comes into play.

Other choices: Randall Cobb, GB @ Oakland Raiders ($88,400); Michael Floyd, ARI @ Philadelphia Eagles ($83,900); Tyler Lockett, SEA vs. Cleveland Browns ($75,800)

Over-Value

Antonio Brown, PIT vs. Denver Broncos ($129,900) – Brown is normally a receiving machine with the targets and catches he gets in a game. Is Brown your guy in Week 15? Tough one, mainly since the Broncos have been dominant against the pass this season defensively. I’m staying away at $129.9 K, with the other reasonable values out there on FantasyFeud.com for a similar price.
